Know Your City's popular tech tour is back, Keep Portland Wired! version 2.0

Join Know Your City for a walking tour of Portland’s technology industry, including meeting some of the best minds that keep our city on the map for innovative and creative thinking as well as some of our emerging start ups. We'll drop by some spots from our popular tech tour last year as well as meet some new faces in Portland’s tech community of developers and start-ups. Get a behind-the-scenes view of leading tech innovators and meet some of the leaders who are shaping Portland’s tech future.

We’ll start out at Portland Incubator Experiment, a start-up incubator for new, emerging tech businesses. Associated with and housed in the Wieden+Kennedy building, the space canopies 8-10 start-ups at a time, helping with the early stages of creating a tech-based startup business. We’ll hear about how they’ve created more than $1 million in venture capital and more than 400 jobs, and meet with several of the business owners.

Next we’ll walk over to Puppet Labs, a creator of IT automation software based in Portland that helps companies manage their data through open-source technology. We’ll hear about the history of the company, as well as the philosophy around open-source communities in Portland and for many of their internationally-base clients.

We’ll take a streetcar to our next stop, Esri PDX, a research and development company, that works with mapping and smart phone technology. We'll hear about the development of their apps, that integrate location-based data to a broad range of practical everyday uses – from public alert systems to retail coupons and finding real estate.

Afterwards, stick around for the perfect compliment for a day of Portland tech talk – locally made beer and lunch at a food cart! We’ll end our tour by visiting a pod of food carts and head over for a beer or two at Bailey’s Tap Room, where the kegs tweet their content status and the beer is locally-sourced.
